My husband's 16 yr old son has been living with him since april '09, (his son is not biologicaly his but he claims him either/or) however his ex is STILL to this day receiving full amount child support. (they have 2 kids together). The CS was court ordered to my husbands employer, not through CSE. We payed a lawyer to get custody and stop the CS on the son living with us, but she refuses to sign those papers, so now it would be considered contested. We literally have NO money at all to pay this lawyer anymore. Is there any other option AT ALL to get the child support stopped, and maybe, possibly be reimbursed for the past yr & 3 months? Between my husband & i, we have 6 kids. He has 4, i have 2. Two of his kids live with us, as my 2 live with us as well. He pays child support on the 2 that do not live with us, totaled almost $1000/month.....can THIS be a factor to help us, and what options do we have? Mind you, my husband's job layed everyone off last week, and we have NO idea how long it'll be before he goes back to work.

Sorry to hear about the job layoff. Since you can't continue paying your family lawyer, your only other choice would be for your son to represent himself going forward.  The good news is that most judges listening to these types of matters will usually allow a 16 yr old child to make his own choice in regards to "where" he wants to live. The judge should entertain your motion to modify child support to lessen the amount given to your husband's ex for the 16 year old. Judges typically will consider job situations as well when entertaining a motion to reduce child support.
