I was stopped 1 mile from my exit in late November at 1:30 in the morning traveling at 114 MPH in a 70 MPH zone by a city patrol on I 85. No excuse, just taking advantage of open road and my enjoyment of speed. Have 1-19-10 court date. Any tricks to saving some points/cash? The weather was clear and no other traffic. They were set up in the dark operating LIDAR.
Of course, going 114 mph is way too fast, however, there are ways for you to successfully keep this off your record and minimize points. If your driving record is squeaky clean, the prosecutor may allow you to enter a plea of No Contest (sometimes called "Nolo) to the speeding charge. If allowed, this infraction would not show on your record and you would not recieve any point...On the other hand, because the speed is egregious, the prosecutor assigned to the case might not allow a Nolo plea. If that's the case, you might want to look into doing a trial and try to keep the the actual speed (114 mph) from being allowed into evidence. Since this type of strategy would require the technical evidentiary expertise of a lawyer, you would need to contact and hire an attorney.
Also, keep in mind that you may be subject to the new "Super Speeder" laws in Georgia. This would only apply if you recieved the speeding ticket after 1-1-2010.
