I was recently arrested for posession of Cocaine although the amount was residue on a dollar bill. I also had a quarter ounce of Marijuana on me. I am a first time offender and I have already enrolled in a substance abuse program as ordered by my bond conditions, and I decided on my own to seek psychological treatment as well. Is there anything else (other than getting an excellent lawyer) that I could do to have the most minimum sentence possible with being a first time offender???

The substance abuse program and psychological treatment are positive steps in the right direction. Perhaps a few "N.A" (Narcotics Anonymous) would help too. Keep in mind that a guilty plea to a drug charge in Georgia will precipitate license suspension for six months. You can avoid this by pleading either under the "First Offender Act" or simply pleading "No contest." Of course, a good lawyer would advise you to fight the charge if any viable defenses exist.
