Speeding Ticket asked 25 May 2010
I got a speeding ticket in Ashburn, GA which is 160 miles from my home in Atlanta. It was for 88 in a 70. They want $374.00 to pay the fine before the court date with a guilty plea. The court date is scheduled for June 3rd.
I guess my question is what would you advise me to do? $374 is a lot of money for a ticket it seems like but having to drive 320 miles round trip, miss work, and still pay a fine seems like a waste of time too. I really do not want my insurance to go up either. Do I have any options? Is there any chance of getting the fine reduced without me having to go there? I guess if I hire an attorney then is the cost going to outweigh this $374 fine and potential insurance hike?Warning, you have been issued a ticket that falls under the new Super Speeder law in Georgia! This means that if you simply pay the ticket, you WILL be sent an additional $200 dollar fine by the State of Georgia. If you don't pay it, you license will be suspended. I strongly urge that you hire a or talk to a local lawyer and try to get the speed reduced to under 85mph. Doing so will remove you from the Super Speeder category and save you negative points on your driving record. If you can't afford a lawyer, call the prosecutor down there and ask him to reduce your speed on the ticket in exchange for paying a modest fine.
