Speeding ticket in Duluth  asked 22 Jun 2010
This is my first offense for speeding and I am unaware of the process in regards to the court proceedings. I have already found out the amount of the ticket, however I am concerned about the points. Is this something determined when I go to court? I plan to plead no-lo. I know I can only do this once every 5 years. When I talk to the judge, are the points something I can negotiate and ask about or does he/she just decide? I have also been told I can call the D.A. for Duluth and negotiate with him/her and avoid going to court. Is this true? Overall, I am nervous about this court thing and any details or info you can provide would be helpful! Thank you.

Your case looks pretty easy to manage. On your regularly scheduled court date, speak to the prosecutor (called "solicitor") and ask him to reduce the speed to 14mph over the posted limit. The solicitor will probably allow this since this is your first ticket. The benefit of doing this and paying a modest fine, is that it will not show up on your driving record. This strategy will allow you to save your "Nolo" for a rainy day...
