I received a ticket for not moving over one lane when I passed two police cars in Doraville. I called to ask the fine & was told it is a mandatory court appearance. I have to be in court on Tuesday March 2nd & am asking your professional opinion on what I should do? My license in clean no tickets or fines of any type at all! I do drive for a living so my record is important to me. Please advise asap!
When you appear in court on March 2nd, ask to speak to the Solicitor (prosecutor) and discuss with him what options you have and whether you can do something to keep this off your record. Not too many people like this "move-over" law (including prosecutors...) and therefore they are fairly flexible. Make sure that you mention that you didn't realize there were police cars on the roadway and didn't have enough time to move over. If the prosecutor gives you an option to keep this off your record, then I suggest you do it! If he says this is not an option, then simply ask for a continuance, call my office (404 881-6500) and ask for Attorney Mary Beth Wood. She can help you with this matter.
