witness to a crime  asked 23 Sep 2011
Hello Mr. Stein. I was sent a subpoena in the mail to be a witness to a crime. I was not served in person. Can the state make me testify against my will? George, I cannot express how much I really don't want to be a part of this. What can I do to ge out of this? I really don't want my family and I to have to be looking over our sbhoulders because we pissed off some pysco. Please help. Chris

I can’t advise you to knowingly avoid a legally served subpoena. Perhaps you would be better off to meet with the prosecutor and express your concerns at that time. The State may not prefer to call you as a witness if they think your testimony will not be helpful.
