Wreckless Driving  asked 3 Oct 2011
I was driving through a parking lot on Saturday and did not see a policeman who was walking accross to his car. He ticketed me for wreckless driving...what am I facing?

As is the case with any Misdemeanor, you are facing a thousand dollar fine and one year in jail…But fear not, that would never happen to you. All you need to know is that if you plead “guilty” to Reckless Driving, you would be assessed a fine and probably no jail time. However, you would be given 4 points on your driving record. Therefore, talk to the prosecutor and see if he/she would be willing to dismiss the Reckless charge and allow you to plead to a lesser offense. If they are not flexible, consider pleading “Nolo” to Reckless. By doing so, you would get zero points on your driving record. Remember, you always have the option of pleading not guilty and can request a trial!
